Adjudicator - Simon Gilliver
Simon read music at the University of Birmingham, followed by postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he received a Masters Degree and the Guildhall Artist award, both with distinction. He enjoys a varied career as both a flautist and pianist.
He won the Albert Cooper International Flute Competition in 2006. Following a year as co-principal flute with Southbank Sinfonia in 2008, he mixes freelance orchestral, chamber music and solo recital work. He is Principal Flute with Covent Garden Sinfonia, and a regular tutor for the popular Flute School London courses and contributor to the international online E-flute festival.
Simon is very actively involved in working with young musicians locally, as Assistant Director of Poole Society of Young Musicians, which involves organising and directing many ensembles and concerts. He is also a Live Music Now Artist together with his Bournemouth based trio, Winds of Change.
